Alan is a village of 11 inhabitants which is situated on the Senj to Ogulin road. It is a well-known mountain pass called Mali Alan (1045 meters above sea level). The Alan Bilo peak is 1120 meters high. The village was built where the village of Stinica used to be. It has been inhabited since the Roman period, and it was first mentioned in king Kresimir's charter in 1070.
Now Alan has a hotel and a camping site and a developed tourism. Not far from the village, on the mountain of Velebit, there is the Veliki Alan pass (1332 m), where the road to Lika passes through. There used to be the engine-room of the industrial cable railway which transported Velebit wood to Stinica. Nowadays it has the Podgorica Inn, the forester's cabin and an Alpine hut.
