Aljmas is the village on the 94 m above the sea level with 820 inhabitants, located by the right bank of Danube river 2 km from the mouth Drava into Danube river. The name come from Hungarian word alma (apple).In the middle ages it was a trading centre of this past of Slavonia.
During middle ages when there Turks reing, and the inhabitants moved out or being Islamized. After Turk's leaving being settled down again Croats, later also Germans, Hungarians and Serbs. At the end of the Second World War all the Germans being forced to move out.
During the Homeland war 1991, the Croats were expelled and their houses destroyed or occupied by Serbs. The church of Gospa of Utocista was razing to ground. With the reestablishing Croatian government in this area this famous shrine will be reconstructed.
