Bale is a locality with 880 inhabitants at an attitude of 142 meters above sea-level situated on the 22nd kilometers of the Pula-Trst road. It is a typical acropolis village. The St. Ilija's church dates from the early Middle Ages. A new church was built in 1880 which contains a valuable Romanic crucifix. In the church of the Holy Spirit valuable gothic wall painting has been preserved. A praetorian palace a lodge and a grain container also date from the Middle Ages. The ruins of a tenth century three aisled church are nearby, surrounded by olive trees and vineyard. | |
