Cape Spear Travel Guide

Cape Spear, Newfoundland Cape Spear historic site on the Avalon Peninsula[1] only a short drive from downtown St. John’s.[2] It is Canada’s easternmost point, and controversially holds the title as North America’s easternmost point.[3] The site has been designated a Canadian National Historic site and is called the Cape Spear National Historic Park.[4] Cape Spear is a good place to whale-watch and spot ethereal, odd-shaped icebergs drifting by amid a wooden lighthouse towering two stories high. This happens to be the continent’s oldest surviving lighthouse and was erected in 1835.
