Horrible food, horrible service, horrible experience

My fiancee and I were visiting Cape May for a second time because we loved the area. We found out about Carney's through a visitor's guidebook in our hotel room and decided to go to the "early bird special" at the restaurant (served from 4-6 P.M.). This was the first of many disappointments to follow.....

Beware: there is false advertising in their menu about the early bird specials. My fiancee and I both love Chicken Parmesan meals and this platter was included in the "early bird" section (in which all the entrees listed were to include a vegetable, a potato of the day, and a soup or salad). When we asked about the vegetable, potato, and soup, our waitress informed us that the pasta that came with the Chicken Parm meal was the equivalent of the soup/salad, veggie, and potato! We looked again at the menu and saw NOTHING of the sort described or listed in the "early bird" section. We took a few moments and decided that we still wanted to try that meal even if it didn't include what it said it would include; the price was right and we were in the mood for having that meal. This was our second disappointment.....

We waited 35 minutes for our food to be served and the restaurant was only 1/3 full (it was October during the week). Another large party of 8-10 people arrived after us, ordered, and were served in 15 minutes (including some Chicken Parm meals). When our food came, it was delivered by a guy from the back (a cook?). When we placed our order, our waitress had promised to come back to give us toppings for the meal...she never did. She also never checked on us for drinks, quality of the food, or anything after we were served.

The food.....well, to put it politely....the meat tasted like the smell of a cow. My fiancee couldn't even finish hers because it tasted so rancid. When our bill finally came the waitress just took our plates and left.

The one-dollar tip we left was probably too much. We were ready to get up and leave half-an-hour before and probably should have.
