Corniche is the long strip that runs along the southwestern coast of Marseille from Palais du Pharo to Plage du Prado. The strip features dramatic cliffs, statues and arches like the Monument aux Morts des Orients, inlets like the Anse des Auffes, and coastal paths, bays, and beaches that make for great swimming but better surfing and sailing, especially when the mistral winds are in play.
A few “must” spots of Corniche include the Plage des Catalans, which is the city center’s main beach and most popular stretch of sand. At the other end of Corniche is the Plage du Prado whose beach and waters are pristine and unpolluted. There are also parks like the Parc Borély, where you’ll find rose gardens, boating lakes, palm trees, and botanical flower beds. Parc Borély is definitely Marseille’s best green space.
