Crikvenica is a municipal centre it is a very attractive tourist town with 5,800 inhabitants, situated at 6 m above sea level. It is a very famous bathing place and summer resort on Croatian seaside. It lays on the Adriatic main road to the East of Rijeka, on the mouth of the little brook Dobricina, whose sand deposits have created one of the most beautiful beaches one can see along the coast.
For years the tourists have been attracted by mild climate, nice position and very rich Mediterranean vegetation. The locality was the seat of a Pauline monastery with a church built in 1412 by the ban Nikola Frankopan. In 19th centuries the first sanatorium hotel "Therapia" was built and shortly followed by the other two. It is a rather old place, first mentioned as a parish in 1420. Its parochial church of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1659.
