Donji Lapac is a town with the population of 1800 situated in the craggy Lapac field (Lapacko polje), on the Bihac to Knin road (582 meters above sea level). Objects and ruins from the Roman period have been found here. The old town was located on the Obljaj hill, to the south of Donji Lapac, and it belonged to the Frankopan family. After the Turks had been driven away, it became a part of Vojna krajina (the Croatian Military Border).
Donji Lapac has several rather big firms. The near-by Bijeli Potoci Kamensko locality was proclaimed a natural monument, and a recreation centre was built there. In 1995, during Oluja (The storm), the action for the liberation of Croatia, the majority of the Serbian population left this area which was then settled by Croatian refugees from Bosnia.
