| Estrella Del Mar is somewhere I discovered 5 years ago, courtesy of a good friend who is an even better friend now. Somehow, I managed to get a free pass from my wife to check out this destination with a view to potential investment. That was my story. In reality, I wanted to have a week playing golf, drinking and soaking up the sun with someone who told me this was a very special place which would have an immediate impact on me.
He wasn't wrong. We flew direct from Denver, 2 3/4 hours, had a 10 minute transfer from the airport, and were drinking beers on the deck overlooking the gardens, pools, beach and ocean within 30 seconds of entering the condo. It was absolutely perfect. The condo was beautiful, the view stupendous, the pool and gardens so tranquil, the beach sublime, and the ocean inviting and invigoratingly exciting. We came for golf, and the course is one of the best tracks I've ever played. Designed by Robert Trent Jone Jr, it is a masterful layout, with lakes, fountains, beachfront holes, palm trees everywhere, and beautifully maintained fairways and greens. The Clubhouse is great for breakfast or lunch and the wait staff always courteous. There is also a new hotel, Las Villas Hotel & Spa within this gated community, just opened, and offering wedding and conference facilities, full service spa, workout room, great restaurant, bar, pools and hot-tubs. That Estrella is off the beaten path so to speak, and not in central Mazatlan, is one of its many attractions. It offers 3 1/2 miles of exclusive beachfront and not a beach vendor in sight. In fact you have to (and can) walk 8 miles along the beach to the nearest civilization. This, for me, is what abeach vacation is all about. Perfect setting, great beach & ocean, wonderful fully equipped condos, fantasic golf course, and really easy to get to. I give Estrella Del Mar the highest recommendation possible. |
