The Grands Trianons is the king’s retreat from the Château de Versailles. It is located more than a mile away from the palace and requires a bike, horse-drawn carriage, or a row-boat from the Grand Canal to get to it. You can also take an electric train there.
The Grand Trianon was built in 1687 as a pleasure palace used by the king to retreat away from family and officials. It replaced a prior house that was built for King Louis XIV’s mistress, Marquise de Montespan. It is now used to entertain visiting heads of states and as a place for negotiating and signing treaties. |
