Jablanac Travel Guide

Jablanac is a tourist and transit village of 160 inhabitants to the south of Senj (40 meters above sea level). A three-kilometer-long diverging road leads from the Adriatic Highway to Jablanac, which is connected with the island of Rab by a ferry, while the road over the Alan pass connects it to Lika. Jablanac was first mentioned as a town and port in 1179.

In the 13th century it was a Royal Borough. On a cape above the harbor there is a medieval fortress built by Stjepan Culic in 1252. There are two hotels, the Alan and the Jablanac, the camping site Sitnica and Varazdin - the Alpine hut on the lowest altitude in the world - just 20 meters above sea level. Here "mountaineers" often meet with swimmers in swimming trunks and with foot-fins.

On the coast, 2 kilometers to the south, there is the flooded river valley Zavrtnica, which is shaped like a fjord. You can see the remains of the flooded old town and of a sunken ship from the World War II. The Zavrtnica Inn offers board and lodging, and there is a well-kept pathway leading to the fjord.
