Karin Travel Guide

landscape

Karin is a place with a population of 1500 on the road from Obrovac to Castle Zagarski. The Romans knew it by the name Carinium. Inscribed monuments have been found in the Roman amphitheatre in the Miodrag citadel. A sea firth of Karin is popularly named The Karin Sea. The medieval church and a monastery built in 1428 are situated here.

Karin has had a steady course of progress until the year 1992, when it was mined by chetniks. Karin was an architectural masterpiece with stylistic elements from all the major periods in architecture from the Romanesque style to gothic, from renaissance to baroque. Once restored, it is going to be a facsimile.

The neighboring area has further valuable monuments: The Klikocevac tower, The Jankovici palace and the Benkovac castle. Karin and the nearby Krusevo are the first two localities in Croatia where centers for the citizens of Croatia who have decided to return from abroad and have no adequate means of supporting themselves have been founded.
