La Ronge Travel Guide

La Ronge is a small town deep in northern Saskatchewan. Its closest neighbor is Prince Albert, about 250 kilometers to the north. La Ronge is situated at the southwestern shores of Lac la Ronge and is next to Lac la Ronge Provincial Park,[1] which encompasses more than 340,000 hectares (840,000 acres) of lakes and forests.[2] La Ronge started out as a fur trading post, but later moved into mining of the resources of the area.[3]

The main attraction of La Ronge is Lac La Ronge Provincial Park. This vast, protected expanse has over 100 lakes,[4] including the enormous Lake La Ronge. Other features of the park include river rapids, waterfalls, and pleasant spots for fishing and canoeing. The town is a great place to stay and the lodges and other accommodations are often sold as part of packaged camping and canoeing trips.[5] There are also several First Nations communities around La Ronge that you can visit and explore.[6]
