Lastovo Travel Guide

Lastovo is a municipality with a population of 600 on the island of the same name. This is a piece of Heaven on Earth. Lastovo and Lastovcici (its small islands) are an archipelago with 46 islands at an elevation of 26 m. Lastovo is the centre of the archipelago society, It the Greek times it was known by the name of Ladesta. The parish church of St. Kuzma has valuable paintings. The church of St. Vlaho with towers and the defensive walls dates from the 12th Century. There is a lodge on the square. The remains of the citadel and a newly renovated fort are located above the place. Several 15th Century buildings have been preserved. The Rab Agreement of 1920 assigns Lastovo to Italy.

The freshwater spring located on the island gives 50 liters of water per second. Fishing is highly developed, as well as the cultivation of olive trees, vineyards, fig trees and other characteristic plants of that area. The settlement of Ubli, situated on the other side of the island, has the oldest fish canning factory in Croatia. There is a health centre as well as several inns and shops here.
