"An American Treasure"

The Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland is not just a local attraction, it is truly "an American Treasure". The museum, founded by the late CWO Ken Black now houses the largest collection of lighthouse and Coast Guard artifacts in the United States!

Ken's collection began when he was at Boston Light on Little Brewster Island in Boston Harbor. Ken was eventually transferred to Rockland, Maine and brought the artifacts with him. The collection was moved to Limerock Street in Rockland where it was part of the Shore Village Museum. The building was owned by the city which decided to sell it, forcing the museum to look for a new home.

A new home was found on the waterfront in the former location of the Courier Newspaper, a beautiful spot across from the Trade WInds Motor Inn. The museum now finds itself facing financial problems and may be forced to close it's doors unless $50,000 can be raised by July of this year.
