| After being disappointed with a few theme parks (too American or... err... Dutch) I decided to skip the Universal Studios theme park here and went straight for the Osaka Jo (Osaka Castle) first. The Osaka Jo is a reconstruction of the original but it's very well made and the museum inside is a great educational and inspirational experience which tells the story of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and also the history of the castle itself. Actually chances are that you have seen a photo of the Osaka Jo somewhere. It's often associated with tourism in Japan and... actually, you can see it on most Japan travel brochures. Shitenoji is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Japan and it's worth stopping by to have a look. I also had fun at the Oriental Ceramics Museum where thousands of wonderful works are displayed. I highly recommend Osaka, if only just to see Osaka Jo. I mean, how do you come to Japan and not see that imposing castle on that brochure cover? |
