| My husband and i went here as one of our shore excursions on a cruise with Carnival Cruise line. We had fun shopping, but soon realized that we should have brought smaller bills than a twenty as no one would give change nor did they know how. Be safe and bring all ones. AND everything (food) was overpriced... We walked along the ocean front and decided to get some fresh fruit (big mistake) the fruit was dry and full of sandy water. We went to Senor Frogs for lunch (really good). We also went to George and Louies where the "shot girl" came around and a fun time was had by everyone... Would I ever go back to Playa del Carmen? Not unless I was staying at a resort or our cruise had it as a port of call... I would probably not go out of my way as there was nothing much to see, other than on the drive from the port there wasn't much more than a few shanty lean-to homes and dusty, dirty roads. The area of Calica is a poor to loq-income shipping port, so don't expect much until you get to the resort areas. |
