Sidney Travel Guide

Sidney is a town on Vancouver Island, located in the northern region of the Saanich Peninsula. It is quite close to the Victoria International Kilometer as well as the Swartz Bay terminal, where ferries run to and from Tsawwassen on the lower mainland. The town is also the ferry terminal for crossings from Anacortes, Washington. The town has a large boating and marina supplies industry.

The main attraction of Sidney is its diverse flora and fauna. It is particularly a worthwhile bird-watching destination, home to various birds like the northwestern crow, bald eagle, house sparrow, common starling, common rave, American robin, and the turkey vulture. You’ll also find various wildlife like minks, deer, cottontail rabbits, and otters.

Some of the interesting tree species native to Sidney include the Douglas fir, the Sitka spruce, Western red cedar, Pacific crab apple, Garry oak, quaking aspen, Douglas maple, black cottonwood, red alder, and the western hemlock.
