Tar Travel Guide

Tar has a population of 830; a place on the Porec-Novigred road, founded by the 18th century settlers from southern Dalmatia. The remains of Romanesque church and the ruins of a medieval tower can be seen here. A restaurant serving fish specialties is built in the Tar Cove, near the mouth of the Mima River.

The oldest record of fishery in these parts dates from the year 983, when the right to collect the income coming from the fishery in this cove has been bestowed upon the Porec diocese by the German - Roman emperor Oton III. Tar and Vabriga are the only settlements in this area which have preserved the authenticity of their architecture up to day. Shells are cultivated in the nearby coves.
